The Buffalo Public School District hired a Medical Director who is considered to be one of the best pediatricians in Western New York: Dr. Steven J. Lana, who officially joined the District on August 31st, 2009.  Dr. Lana’s extensive experience in pediatrics will assist the Buffalo Public School District in creating and implementing health policies that will keep children healthy and safe, including remaining free from communicable diseases like H1N1.

The Buffalo Public School District's immediate short-term goal is to provide children the optimal level of protection against serious communicable disease like the flu and H1N1.  The long-term goal is to improve the overall health and well being of children in the Buffalo Public School District, especially alarming issues like childhood obesity and MRSA.

The links we provided below are very important in keeping children disease-free.  It has been important for the District to clearly communicate with families on a regular basis about any and all pertinent information concerning H1N1, and as you'll read the information provided in the links below, the BPS has been pro-active in communicating with the community.
