Three units of study in science are required to meet the NYS diploma requirements for graduation. One course must be "Biology" and one must be one of the "Physical Settings". The third course of study can be either another "Physical Setting", a standards based elective or a specialized elective (see BPS options below).
Grades 9 – 12 sciences are lab-based programs with stand-alone curricula, covering specific areas of science. These curricula are NYS MST Learning Standards based.
There are 4 NYS Regents level curricula with mandatory lab requirements of 1200 minutes of laboratory experiences with satisfactory reports written before entry into the NYS Regents examination:
There are 2 BPS standards-based electives that can be used to meet the NYS diploma requirements for graduation:
- Environmental Science
- Science 9
Advanced Placement science curricula, International Baccalaureate programs in science and Integrated CTE-Science curricula are in several high schools which can be used to meet the diploma requirements for graduation.
