General information for Elementary Schools: In an effort to keep families together, three types of assignment preferences are available. All preferences and school placements are based on seat availability. Preference:
- Sibling Preference: 50% of available lottery seats are given to applicants who have a brother or sister residing within the same household and are currently attending a Buffalo Public School or siblings that are applying. The request must be made on the application
- Proximity Preference: 25% of remaining seats (following sibling preference) are given to students residing within a 1.5 mile distance from the school. This request must be made on the application
- Attendance Boundary Preference: 35 % of seats at Frederick Law Olmsted 64 and 50 % of seats at Discovery School 67
How to Apply: -
Applications are available at the Central Registration Center, 33 Ash Street, Buffalo, New York 14204 -
Application are also available at all Buffalo Public Elementary Schools -
Parents prioritize five (5) schools of choice -
Students applying to criteria programs must meet the qualifications for admittance -
Late applications are not accepted from current Buffalo Public School students -
All students that are currently in the highest grade level of a Buffalo Public School must apply -
Application deadlines must be adhered to

- All school assignments carry a one-year commitment
- Changes may not be made to the application after it has been submitted to the Student Placement Office
- The Student Placement Office is relying upon information provided by Parents/Guardians for grade placement. If, at a later date, this information is found to be incorrect, your child's school assignment may be changed
