• Sibling Preference is available for Lottery assignments only
  

• The application must be submitted with the parents signature
• Placement into a lottery component is made by computerized lottery
• Placement into a criteria program is based on the student meeting the qualifications. Some schools require an entrance test.  Qualifications are reviewed by a committee to determine acceptance into criteria programs
• Counselors convene student advisement sessions regarding the most appropriate choices for that student based on their academic performance and interests 
• Parents prioritize three (3) choices which may be a combination of lottery and criteria based programs
• Waiting pools are established and remain active through the first marking period for all current Buffalo Public Schools students 
• Should there be more applicants than seat availability, waiting pools are then established.  Waiting pool status will be removed once a student is accepted into another Buffalo Public school
• 8th graders that do not receive one of their choices will be assigned to a school, nearest their home, based on seat availability

How to Apply:  New students to Buffalo Public Schools

• The application must be submitted with the parent/guardian signature
• The current school counselor/principal must fill in 1^st quarter grades and the attendance area of the application (page 1) if applying to a criteria based program
• Lottery assignments are made by computerized lottery
• Placement into a criteria program is based on the student meeting the qualifications.  Some schools require an entrance exam/audition (open house schedule found on this website) Qualifications are reviewed by a committee to determine acceptance into the program
• Should there be more applicants than seat availability, waiting pools are then established.  Waiting pool status will be removed once a student is accepted into another Buffalo Public school

PLEASE NOTE:
All assignments carry a one-year commitment
All current Buffalo Public Schools 8th grade applications must be submitted by the school counselor
All 8th grade students that are retained will remain at his/her current school
