Social Studies
The social studies curriculum is aligned to New York State Social Studies Framework and is tailored to challenge and encourage students to grow in their breadth of knowledge, skills in finding and applying information, and in honing the ability to think, write, and speak clearly.
To graduate, students must earn four credits of social studies at the commencement-level. The core content sequence is typically Global History and Geography I, Global History and Geography II (R), United State History & Government (R), Participation in Government, and Economics. However, students may choose to take identified Advanced Placement (AP) courses in Social Studies to replace a core course; Advanced Placement courses may also be taken in addition to the core sequence for elective credit. The International Baccalaureate may also be taken to replace courses within the core sequence. Elective offerings may vary by school.
Please note:
Some classes are unique to a particular program or school.
Not every class is offered at every school.
Course offerings may change yearly based on student course requests and other factors.
