Science Department

Science Department Mission & Vision Statement
The mission of the Science Department is to provide all students with equitable access to a rigorous and engaging science education that is aligned with the New York State Science Learning Standards. We are committed to delivering three-dimensional instruction that integrates scientific practices, crosscutting concepts, and disciplinary core ideas to deepen students' understanding of the natural world.
The Buffalo Public School Science Department values phenomenon-driven, hands-on instruction that fosters inquiry, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills. Students learn best when they actively participate in their education, and we strive to offer diverse opportunities for experiential, community-based learning. By connecting classroom lessons to real-world applications, we aim to inspire curiosity, cultivate a passion for discovery, and prepare students for future success in an ever-evolving scientific landscape.
The Science Department is dedicated to ensuring that all instruction is culturally and linguistically relevant, recognizing the diverse backgrounds and experiences of our students. By incorporating diverse perspectives and using inclusive teaching practices, we aim to create a supportive and enriching learning environment where all students feel valued, respected, and empowered to succeed.
