Olmsted provides students in grades 5-12 with an educational program based on a gifted and talented philosophy. The Olmsted administration's goal is to provide educational opportunities to students who possess above average academic ability, creativity, and task commitment in various academic areas.
In order to achieve the goal of acceleration and enrichment, advanced placement courses and college level courses are offered to students at appropriate times.
As part of the Buffalo School District's Joint Schools Reconstruction Project, Olmsted's permanent home at the former Kensington High School was renovated at the cost of $20 million, and will house the grade 5-12 component of the Olmsted program.
The renovated Olmsted at Kensington reopened in September 2012 of Olmsted's new home.
