Scholarships
The following list of scholarships is a starting point for students and is not meant to be all inclusive. Many of the scholarships below are available in paper form from the counseling office. Students should seek out additional opportunities from the community, their employer, religious organizations and scholarship databases. Always be sure to verify deadline dates with the sponsoring organization. When possible, a link to the sponsoring organization's website is provided.

Individual Scholarships:
8th Federation Garden Clubs of New York State- Applicants majoring in agriculture, botany, conservation, environmental science, forestry, horticulture, landscape design, or a related field. $1,000 award
Due in March of each year.
Alpha Kappa Delta Scholarship awarded to a female graduating senior. Award varies. Preference given to a girl planning on a career in teaching but is not limited to that field of study. Must be attending a Buffalo Public or private school.

American Association of University Women (AAUW) Buffalo Branch- two $5,000 scholarships awarded to high school senior girls attending an Erie or Niagara County high school. Applicant must be attending a 2 or 4 year accredited college in the fall, have a GPA or 95% or higher. Requires an application, two letters of recommendation, transcript, and personal interview.

Burger King Scholars Program: 10 Awards totaling $50,000. Applications can be found at:
Buffalo Public Schools Scholars Award: This award is given to a college bound graduating senior who has demonstrated academic excellence in high school. This award will be given to (5) students in the amount of $1,000 to be used towards books, etc. Must have a 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale, must be accepted as a full-time student at a college or university, must demonstrate financial need, must be a citizen or legal permanent resident of the US.

Buffalo Retired Administrators Association: Jacqueline Morana Scholarship- $1,000 award - For BPS senior who will be attending a 4 year college or university to pursue a degree in teaching or a related field. Criteria- essay, 2 letters of recommendation, academic average of 80% or higher and transcript

Buffalo Urban League Scholarship Program: All high school seniors who plan to attend college in the fall are eligible to apply. You must have an acceptance letter from the college and complete the FAFSA. Required; application, essay, FAFSA/EFC, transcript, report card, and letter of recommendation. Amount of awards varies.

Clarence "Rock" Connor's High School Scholarship Contest- Omega Psi Phi Fraternity- Senior males are eligible. Requires- transcript, SAT/ACT scores, essay, 2 letters of recommendation, photo, copy of acceptance letter.

Community Action Organization Scholarship: Student in good standing with an 80% GPA or higher, applicants demonstrating financial need will be given priority, application packet, essay, transcript, two letters of recommendation, and FAFSA SAR report that includes EFC.

Community Foundation of Greater Buffalo- Permanent resident of Western New York with a minimum GPA of 2.0, accepted to any nonprofit college/university in the US, full time. Earn up to $6,000.

Council of Great City Schools- Bernard Harris Math and Science Scholarship Program- 4 Scholarships ($5,000 each) awarded to African American and two Hispanic students currently completing their senior year in a member district. applicants must be accepted for full time enrollment in a 4-year college or university and pursuing a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Math (STEM).

Criminal Justice Scholarship Program sponsored by the Judges and Police Executive Conference of Erie County- must be a resident of Erie County, must have a 3.0 GPA or higher, must have a 90% or higher attendance rate, must be accepted to or attending a criminal justice or qualified 2- or 4-year degree program in Erie County.

Engineering Society of Buffalo- Seniors who are pursuing a ABET accredited program in engineering or technology and applying to SUNY at Buffalo, Buffalo State, or Erie Community College. Four scholarships awarded each year $300 per semester ($2400 total). Award is based on scholastic record, financial need, extracurricular activities and leadership potential.

Erie County Chapter of the Links: Awards scholarship money to African descent deserving students. Based on academic achievement, leadership potential, community service, personal essay and financial need.

Girlfriends Fund, Inc. Scholarship- This national organization of African American women has one goal, to find and award college scholarships to deserving students. They are looking for hard working students with some financial need. Students must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher. The scholarship award is $1,500 and renewed annually.

Lillian E. Hundley Scholarship- Presented by Bennett- Wells American Legion Auxiliary #1780. any high school senior who has been accepted to a college or university may apply. Requires two letters of recommendation from high school faculty, one letter of reference, a 500-word essay, transcript and application.
Monsignor Martin Scholarship Essay Contest- Sponsored annually by the Catholic Diocese of Buffalo. First Place $700
Essay judged on originality, accuracy, sensitivity, neatness and length.

Professional Athletes Foundation- Buffalo Bills Chapter- Graduating senior. 2.0 GPA or higher, accepted into a 2- or 4-year college, nominated by a high school coach, participated at the varsity level in athletics for at least one year, has not accepted a full scholarship award or grant (athletic or academic), is not the son or daughter of a current or former NFL player. Requires an essay, coach's nomination form and letter, transcript and application form. $2,500 award

Scalp & Blade Scholarship: $2,500 per year, renewable scholarship for a senior male of the graduating class in Erie County. Only one candidate from each school may be nominated. Must demonstrate outstanding academic accomplishment in terms of grades and college entrance exams, extracurricular activities, community involvement as well as financial need.

SEFCU Robert Cornute Memorial Scholarship: Students who demonstrate excellence in the classroom, leadership skills, and a commitment to community. $2,500 award
Due in April of each year.
Skilled Trades Scholarship- NYS Thruway Authority. Students in vocational/technical programs or students accepted for enrollment in a trade school or college level trade program in the following field: carpentry, electrical, HVAC, and plumbing. $1,000 award.

Truman D. Picard Scholarship: $2,000 for a graduating high school senior. Dedicated to the support of Native American students pursuing higher education. Required: application, resume, 3 letters of recommendation, transcript, and evidence of validated enrollment in a federally recognized tribe.

Vietnam Veterans Peter P. Tycz Memorial Scholarship- Graduating senior who resides in Erie or Niagara County, has a relative who was or is a veteran shows academic achievement and community service, will be enrolled in a college or university in the fall after graduating.

Women Teachers Association of Buffalo- BPS seniors who are accepted to a 2- or 4-year college. One of the scholarships is awarded to a senior whose mother or grandmother has been a member of the WTA for two or more years. Requires: transcript and 3 letters of recommendation.
Due: April each year
Young Women in Public Affairs Award. Seeks to encourage more young women to participate in public affairs by recognizing a commitment to the volunteer sector, evidence of volunteer leadership achievements and a dedication to the status of women. The Zonta Club of Buffalo awards $200 then the recipient becomes eligible to be considered at the district level for a $1500 prize.
