Greetings to our Discovery 67 Community! We are eagerly anticipating the return of your children to us for what we anticipate will be a great 2024/2025 school year. We hope that you had a fantastic summer filled with quality family time and fun outdoor activities.
We have been working hard to prepare for the upcoming year. Mr. Sawyer, our engineer, along with his team, have been readying the building. A big thank you to him and his crew. Mrs. King, Mrs. Patro, Mrs. Martinek, Mrs. Keane and Mrs. Hasan developed our School Comprehensive Education Plan (SCEP). We are confident that the two commitments from the SCEP will be critical in helping to meet our academic and social emotional goals for this year and beyond.
Teachers and support staff have been on site throughout the summer, setting up their rooms and planning for your child’s success. They have been attending trainings so that we can effectively implement the district’s new REVEAL math curriculum. Training on Orton Gillingham and Morphology, effective research-based methods designed to teach reading, has continued. Our students are reaping the benefits of these methodologies.
Schedules are completed thanks to Ms. Andrzejewski and her hard work throughout the summer. Along with core and encore subjects, priority was given to ensure that each and every day, every classroom engages in community time. This is time for teachers to engage students in discussions to give them a voice to express themselves and time dedicated for them to learn valuable communication skills and positive social interaction expectations.
We are continuing to partner with outside agencies to bolster services for our students and their families. Our partnership with OLV allows us to offer on-site counseling services. Read to Succeed, headed by our very own parent, Mrs. Shannon Davis, yielded excellent results last year and we are excited to continue that partnership. Catholic Charities has placed a service coordinator with us. This partnership allows us to provide linkage services to valuable outside providers for our students and families that may need counseling, health care, housing, food and any other potential basic needs. Western New York United is in the process of hiring a new Prevention Specialist for our building so that we can continue to offer leadership training and skill building for our students.
We want to welcome Mrs. Stegura who will be partnering with Mrs. Hasan as an additional Parent Engagement Liaison through the Family and Community Engagement department (FACE). I would also like to take some time to introduce and welcome some new staff to our Discovery 67 Community:
