BUFFALO, N.Y. (January 20, 2025) – Out of an abundance of caution and concern, due to reported and anticipated snow accumulation overnight and extreme wind chill factors for tomorrow morning, along with the New York State Governor declaring a Disaster Emergency for Erie County, the Buffalo Public Schools will be closed on Tuesday, January 21, 2025, with no remote instruction. All students and staff are to stay home and stay safe. High School Regents exams scheduled for Tuesday will be rescheduled because of the state of emergency order issued by New York State. The district will submit a request to the New York State Education Department to recover any snow days used during the emergency order. Extreme wind chill weather challenges are expected to continue onWednesday. Although a final decision for Wednesday has not been determined, it is possible that it will be a day of remote instruction, which will require high school students needing to report for Regentsexams. In that circumstance, all staff will be expected to report to their worksites. Parents, please plan for this and plan, if at all possible, to: Drive them to and from their exams. Ensure they're dressed in layers with proper outside winter gear. Check NFTA schedules to delay bus wait time.

IMPORTANT UPDATE: All students and staff must be prepared to engage in remote learning in the case of future school closures. The district has utilized all three of its allotted snow days for the 2024-2025 school year. As you may be aware, all public schools in New York State, including Buffalo Public Schools, are required to have 180 days a year. In the event of a remote day of learning, next week specifically between 1/21 – 1/24 due to the New York State Regents exams taking place all staff will be expected to report to their worksites. Any student who is scheduled to take a NYS Regents must report to their school to take their exam. This is mandatory. High school students not taking a Regents exam should stay home. Elementary students in grades 3 – 8 are instructed to stay home, and to connect remotely with their teachers using their school-issued or personal devices through such platforms as Schoology, Clever, and Teams. Students in PreK – 2, teachers have sent home printed work to be kept for future use in the event the district is conducting remote learning. If families have questions, they can call the helpdesk at 716-816-3510.
