Mr. Michael Phinney, School Counselor
Mr. Phinney is a School Counselor at Research Lab. He has been a School Counselor for 20 years. He recently came back to being a High School Counselor after spending the past nine years at The Dr. Charles R. Drew Science School #59 as a middle School Counselor. Mr. Phinney has also done teacher trainings and implemented Restorative Practices at School 59, which was one of the first schools in the City of Buffalo to pilot Restorative Practices. He strives to assist in the incorporation of Restorative Practices Community Building Circles, and assist students in building positive relationships within the Research Lab Community. He received his Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work from Niagara University in 1993. While working full time he went to Canisius College and earned his Master’s degree in School Counseling in 1997. Sports have always been a big part of his life and on his free time, he is usually coaching Hockey at Niagara University for the JR Purple Eagles, playing golf, boating or fishing. Mr. Phinney enjoys spending time and vacationing with his wife and three kids.
